Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the most sought-after director-producers in the Hindi film industry. He made a name for himself in the industry due to his knack for showcasing royalty and grandeur in his movies. Fans were left excited when he announced his first web-series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Currently streaming on Netflix, the show has taken the internet by storm. While fans are busy gushing about the performances of a few actors, many have also criticised Bhansali for casting his niece Shermin Shegal, whose performance is bland.
Amid all this many have even pointed out the factual errors made by the 61-year-old filmmaker and his team in the web series. The magnum opus project has been a topic of discussion on the internet for quite some time now. Based in the era of pre-independence, Heeramandi featured Sonakshi Sinha’s character reading an Urdu newspaper, in one of the scenes. Well, according to the netizens, the newspaper has headlines about the Coronavirus pandemic and recent events like the ‘Youth Congress mask distribution scheme’ and the ‘Warangal Municipal Elections.’ Apart from that the newspaper was made with the latest printing methods rather than the one used during the 1920s. In another one of the scenes involving Aditi Rao Hydari, she was seen visiting a library. It was during that scene, that the netizens spotted a copy of the book Pir-e-Kamil. As soon as the show was released, the grandeur of the Heeramandi left everyone speechless until the real photos of the Bazaar from the pre-independence era surfaced the era. From the dresses and the pieces of jewellery adorned by the courtesans to Manisha Koirala’s mehendi designs and the extravagant palatial structure where they stay are all factually incorrect. Netizens have been taking to social media to share glimpses and express their disappointment towards Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Many have been comparing his previous projects with the current ones.
